Education

I am currently employed as a Science Literacy Tutor with Oakland Opportunity Academy in Wixom, MI. I also tutor students as a Graduate Assistant at International Academy West. I have experience working with credit recovery students as well as students in the International Baccalaureate curriculum. I graduated with a 3.619 GPA from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus with a Secondary Teaching Certification in English and Chemistry.

Experience

I recieved a 10 on the ACT Writing subscore and 5 on the AP Language Exam. I have taken English 297 (Introduction to Poetry Studies), English 298 (Introduction to Literature Studies), English 305 (Introduction to the English Language), English 367 (Shakespeare's Plays), English 313 (Lit Studies, Race and Environmental Studies in Early 20th Century South United States), English 350 (Pre 1660's Literature), English 382 (Native American Literature), English 313 (Lit Studies, Jane Austen), SWC 300 (Sweetland Writing Center's Peer Tutoring Seminar), English 340 (Studies in Poetry: Comic Currents in American Poetry), and English 464 (Studies of Individual Authors: Master American Playwrightes, Miller, Williams, and O'Neill). I have taken three writing based American Culture classes as well. I have also taken many courses in Chemistry including: Chemistry 210 (Structure and Reactivity I / Organic Chemistry I), Chemistry 211 (Investigative Chemistry / Organic Chemistry Lab I), Chemistry 215 (Structure and Reactivity II / Organic Chemistry II), Chemistry 216 (Synthesizing Characteristics of Organic Chemistry / Organic Chemistry Lab II), Chemistry 260 (Chemical Principals / Physical Chemistry), Chemistry 241 (Intro to Chemical Analysis / Analytical Chemistry), Chemistry 242 (Analytical Chemistry Lab), and Biological Chemistry 415 (Introduction to Biochem). I have also had research experience in a medical research lab. I once taught a lesson about poetry to an American Culture 206 course, with 15 University of Michigan Football Players in the class. Most of the students had no experience with poetry. I had fun showing them easy ways to analyze the poems and everyone was attentive and participating at the end of the lesson. I really love English and strive to help other students gain basic skills to read critically and write clearly. English is all about communicating clearly, and the skills transfer to all areas of life and learning. I take pride in introducing students to easy tools to improve their reading and writing. Post-graduation, I have professional experience working mostly with high school students. I have tutored a wide variety of students from academically advanced students at International Academy West in White Lake, MI to credit recovery students at Oakland Opportunity Academy in Wixom, MI. I have been exposed to a wide variety of English curriculum and was a long term sub for a full semester teaching American Literature. My favorite part of working as a teacher is getting to work one-on-one with students.
